Major Prophets, Minor Prophets; Former Prophets, Latter Prophets. Early Prophets, Later Prophets. Northern Prophets, Southern Prophets. All sorts ways of sorting the Hebrew Prophets exist. One distinction not commonly spoken of however is Classical/Post-Classical Prophets.
Classical Prophets are those who appeal to fidelity to Yahweh: Hosea, Joel, Micah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel. Postclassical prophets are those such as Joel, Nahum, Habakkuk, Haggai, Zephaniah, Zechariah, and Malachi who emphasize Judah’s special status among the foreign nations or the importance of properly worshiping at the Temple.
